Daily inspiration and creative expression can become a good obsession.
This is my newest work. I finished this painting just before the new year rang in. Originally I named it the " Renaissance Man" then after careful study of my intentions for the painting I changed the name to " Tribute". The painting is a celebration of Jazz, Art and Black history. I wanted to give the painting a cool modern feel while capturing the essence of pure jazz at the same time. While developing the Composition for the painting I continuously referenced the Harlem Renaissance period. It was a time of extraordinary achievement for Black Americans. Great advancement in all fields of endeavor emerged and made an everlasting imprint on American and Global culture. Jazz was at the forefront of this movement and the cornerstone of how we look at it today. One cannot reference the Harlem Renaissance and not mention the influence jazz had on that time in our history. Artists of all disciplines emerged and produced an astounding archive of work that we cherish today. Every type of creativity from painting, sculpture, literature, Dance and the performing arts, Business and entrepreneurship, vocal singing legend's Like Sarah Vaughan and great Jazz composer Duke Ellington. Most of all I wanted to celebrate and pay tribute to all of those who came before me. Those who paved the way for greater inclusion for Black artists. I painted the bow using the colors of the American flag for a reason. To simply illustrate the sheer volume of contributions made by African Americans, not only to America But the world as well.
"Tribute" is a 50" x50" Oil on canvas......$6,500.
